FAQs
Prepare to be comfortable
It can be helpful to follow your regular bedtime routine as closely as possible, so you should bring your usual bedclothes or other items to help you sleep.
Some people find it helpful to bring their pillows to the sleep lab. If the study subject is a child, they may also bring comfort objects like stuffed animals, blankets, or special toys into the lab.
Skip Naps
It is best not to take a nap on the day of a nighttime sleep study. A daytime nap may make sleeping harder the night of the sleep study.
Don't Apply Hair Sprays, Oils, Gels, or Lotions
Most sleep studies involve the use of small metal discs called electrodes, which are attached to the scalp, eyelids, and other parts of the body. It is best not to use hairspray, hair gel, lotions, or make-up during the study. These products have the potential to interfere with the way the electrodes record measurements during sleep.
